The Homeowner Inspection
We clean up all the leftover materials that can be considered scraps, the dust that was caused in the process, and place back the furniture in the room or space that just got the new flooring. After your installation is completely finished, it’s time for a thorough homeowner inspection to ensure that the final result aligns with your expectations. Start by examining the overall look and feel of the floor. Walk through each room that got the new covering and all the adjacent rooms to it, noting if any inconsistencies in color or pattern might be present, and checking that each plank, tile, or piece of flooring is flush against its neighbors. Take note of transitions between different rooms or types of flooring—these should be smooth and seamless. Small gaps, misalignments, or uneven areas may indicate an installation issue that needs addressing.
Next, focus on the edges and perimeter of the installed flooring. Carefully inspect areas near walls, doorways, and baseboards, as these are common places for gaps or lifting to occur. A proper installation includes clean cuts and secure placement around these challenging areas. Ensure that trims and moldings have been reattached neatly and without damaging the floor, which can be especially important for avoiding wear over time. Additionally, if you requested a particular pattern or layout for the installation, double-check that it has been followed precisely.
Finally, test the floor’s durability and stability by walking across various sections, especially in high-traffic areas like hallways or kitchen entries. There should be no creaks, shifts, or soft spots—these can be signs that certain sections may not be fully secured. If you notice any issues, contact your installer promptly to discuss necessary adjustments. Remember, a quality installation will not only look beautiful but should also feel solid and last for years to come.
